5Can't beat the features at this price.Jan 06, 2009

Great headphones. Bought them for Dad for Christmas, tried them out immediately. Wearing the headphones, you can hear whispering and talking, but then clap your hands - you can't hear it at all! Only filters out super-loud frequencies, and it does a darn good job at it! Great for yard work or firing range use. I highly, highly recommend this for low-cost hearing protection. Beats earplugs any day of the week.

My Buddy and i took this pair and 4 other ear muffs out shooting to find out which ones we liked. We have narrowed it down to this and PELTOR PEL97044, we liked them both and were torn over the two. They both have great sound deadening, but i think these have the upper hand, witht he ease of battery install, one knob to adjust valume, and they amplify the outside noise to a higher volume then the Peltor ear muffs. We both liked the Peltor that they are more compact, and i think better looking, they dont have wires hanging our, and they have twice batteries, so they "should" last a little longer, however the accessing the batteries is kind of a pain, compared to the easy out side access panel the Caldwells. I think that either ear muff will work great for us, however these have the better sound, a slightly higher NRR (23 vs 20), and the one adjustment knob is easier to deal with, plus the Caldwell has a little simple "Idiot" light to let you know you left them on.

4Works great, needs AAA not AA batteriesNov 13, 2009

These work as advertised. Conversation and other background noise are easy to hear when turned on, then silence in loud environments. They will be great on the shooting range. So far, have just used them in the shop working on projects.

Construction quality matches the entry level price, which is fine for most activities requiring hearing protection. Perfect for the range or shop, not for combat.

I would give 5 stars, but wanted a set that uses AA batteries. These need AAA, so product description is a little off.

4When they work, they work fine.Oct 26, 2010

I have two sets of these. If you sweat at all, the sweat condenses on the circuit boards in the muffs... and the static begins. Once they dry, though, they function again.

When they are working properly, they work great. They cut off gun shots quickly and effectively.

These muffs turn off the sound briefly when shots are registered, unlike some other muffs which briefly drop the volume. This means if there are several shots in a row, the muffs are completely silent with no volume. I don't mind this, as they sound like regular non-electric muffs at this point. Some people may prefer the muffs that lower the volume when shots register, as you can still hear conversation and other sounds during gun fire.

The sound amplification on these are more than adequate. The little black windsocks on each of the two mikes are quickly lost in your range bag, as they pull off easily as your move the muffs around in the bag.

Summation: If you can afford better muffs, geat better rated muffs. If you're frugal, or use them intermittantly, these are more than adequate.

5why pay $100 ???Apr 29, 2010
By John P. Betancourt "The Owl"
really impressed with how these function. they actually amplify sound until you get a loud sound that they instantly cut out. I cannot for the life of me imagine why people are paying so much money for competing products that sell based on name or color...?
